With the release of the latest Samsung Gear smartwatch SDK today, Samsung has revealed a handful of new information on its upcoming smartwatch including some hardware specs, navigation details and how the UI of the Tizen-powered device will look.
According to the SDK, the “next Gear,” or Gear A as it’s rumored to be released as, features an all-metal, round design with a rotating bezel and 1.65-inch 360×360 display. We can also expect the next Gear to launch with WiFi, GPS, cellular radios, an accelerometer, gyrosensor, heart rate monitor, pressure sensor and magnetic sensor.
The rotating bezel on the next Gear will be tied to navigation on the device. Turning the bezel left and right will do everything from changing the volume to zooming in on images and inputing numbers. The rest of the UI looks pretty standard for a modern smartwatch with large tappable targets and easy to understand chunks of information. Considering what we’re used to seeing out of Samsung, it looks very nice.
