Must-have Quick Charge 2.0 accessories for your Android phone and tablet

If you’ve purchased a new Android smartphone or tablet in the past 12 months, there’s a good chance that the device is compatible with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 technology. If you’re not aware, Quick Charge 2.0 can charge a 3300mAh battery from 0 percent to 60 percent in 30 minutes. That’s 75 percent faster than a standard 5 volt, 1 amp USB charger and 50 percent faster than Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 1.0 technology, which has been available for a few years.

Unfortunately, not every Android device is compatible with the Quick Charge 2.0 standard. As a rule of thumb, Quick Charge 2.0 is compatible with any device that’s powered by a Snapdragon processor that’s been released within the past 12-14 months. This includes devices like the HTC One M8, HTC One M9, HTC Desire Eye, Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, LG G3, LG G4 and even the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge (even though neither phone features a Qualcomm SoC). To see if your phone is compatible, check out Qualcomm’s list of supported devices.

Buying an official Quick Charge 2.0 adapter from HTC, LG or Sony can be quite expensive. Fortunately, there are third-party accessory makers that are now offering a wide selection of Qualcomm-certified Quick Charge 2.0 products. The standard wall plug is the most common product, but you can find multi-port USB car chargers and external batteries as well.
