Motorola begins rolling out Android 5.1 for the Moto X and Moto E, introduces new gesture

Motorola has announced that it is now rolling out Android 5.1 Lollipop to the Moto X (2nd Gen.). Google recently introduced Android 5.1 as a minor update that took care of some bugs, added some stability and brought in a couple of new features such as HD Voice support. Motorola is one of the first manufacturers to get the update out to its devices, beginning with the Moto X. The update is beginning in a test phase in Brazil with devices purchased from select retail partners. After that, Motorola will begin pushing out the update in other markets.

In addition, Motorola is now rolling out Android 5.1 to the 2nd gen Moto E 4G LTE in the US. Motorola also gave an update about the DROID Turbo, which has been the source of a lot of talk recently. The flagship is still stuck on KitKat, but Motorola has said that the delay is because the company is looking to update the DROID Turbo directly to Android 5.1.

Google may have packed some new things into Android 5.1, but Motorola is adding one of its own. The new feature is a Moto Action that allows for a quick gesture to activate the flashlight. Users can simply chop the phone twice to quickly activate or deactivate the flashlight. If you’re having trouble figuring out what chopping means, just think of moving your phone as if it were a knife cutting an onion. If you’re more of a visual learner, just check out the GIF below.
