Amazon refreshes its Fire lineup with four new tablets

Amazon is updating its Fire tablet lineup with the release of four new tablets. This refresh includes the Fire 7, Fire HD 8, Fire 7 Kids Edition, and Fire HD 8 Kids Edition. Though the update is largely a refresh of existing devices (the Fire HD 8 Kids Edition is new), it stands as a mark of Amazon’s commitment to offering affordable, value-packed tablets that are geared towards dedicated customers.

Let’s take a look at the changes being offered in this refresh:

  • Fire 7: thinner, lighter design, improved 7-inch 1024 x 600 IPS display, and eight hours of battery life. Retains a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 8/16GB of storage, and Alexa voice assistant technology. Priced at $49.99.
  • Fire HD 8: twelve hours of battery life, 8-inch 1280 x 800 display, 16/32GB of battery life. Retains a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, Dolby Audio, and Alexa voice assistant technology. Now priced lower at $79.99.
  • Fire 7 Kids Edition: 16GB Fire 7 with a Kid-Proof case, one year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, and a two-year worry-free replacement guarantee. Priced at $99.99.
  • Fire HD 8 Kids Edition: 32GB Fire HD 8 with a Kid-Proof case, one year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, and a two-year worry-free replacement guarantee. Priced at $129.99.

With a smattering of minor updates, this refresh isn’t groundbreaking, but it provides even more value for customers at the same or lower prices as before. The new tablets will be released on June 7, but you can pre-order any by following the links in the list above. Drop a comment down below with your thoughts on Amazon’s new tablets.
